On August 8th, 2005 as part of their policy of divesting non core activities, the Smiths Group sold EBTEC Corporation, a subsidiary of Smiths Aerospace Components, to the Aquasium Technology Group.
EBTEC Corporation, a 42-year-old company located in Agawam, Massachusetts, has 60 employees and specialises in high-energy beam processing of aerospace, medical and industrial components. The Corporation will continue to be run by its current management team led by its President, John Leveille.
The Aquasium Technology Group is the parent of Cambridge Vacuum Engineering in the UK and Wentgate Dynaweld Inc in the USA. The Group specialises in the development and manufacturing of electron beam welders and vacuum furnaces. John Cumberland, the Chairman of Aquasium Technology, said, “EBTEC, will now be part of a group that is a world player that specialises in providing high quality solutions to its customers. Our willingness to invest in new equipment and technology will lead to greater opportunities for EBTEC both in the US and throughout the world”.
Both Smiths and Aquasium believe that this EBTEC deal, that joins two companies with complementary customers and technology, will be the catalysts that will deliver growth and expansion for all the stakeholders – customers, suppliers, employees and shareholders.
